Berasal dari laporan pandangan mata seorang teman saya, jadi tertarik mencari tahu mengenai Babi Ngepet. Teman saya bilang dia pernah 2 kali melihat sesosok babi kecil yang lari-larian d pinggir jalan di daerah kota jogja,keduanya dilihatnya waktu pagi hari, mungkin sekitar jam setengah 7 pagi. Secara nalar bisa dibilang tidak mungkin ada babi seperti itu lari-larian dipinggir jalan. Teman saya juga sudah curiga bahwa babi itu bukan babi sesungguhnya. Kalau saya bilang juga itu bukan babi biasa dan sebagai orang jawa sudah sangat umum dikenal mitos mengenai babi ngepet. Kemudian saya cari-cari tentang babi ngepet dan menemukan keterangan dari Wikipedia bhs inggris : "Babi Ngepet is a boar or swine demon in Javanese mythology. According to the local myth, the creature is believed to be the manifestation of a person that practicing pesugihan babi black magic.Pesugihan is derived from Javanese word sugih means "rich". It is a kind of magic to help people to become rich instantly, but in exchange he or she must sacrifice something, in this case they must sacrifice their humanity; allowed themself to be transformed as a boar for a period of time, or some believed that they allowed themself to be possessed by a boardemon. If the fire on the candle is shaking, fading or almost off, it is the sign that the Babi Ngepet is in danger caught in action by villagers or turned back into his human form. Because of this beliefs, Javanese villagers often chasing or even killing boar or pig wandering around the village in the night. Interpretation, The sceptical view believed that it was probably a traditional way to explain the unexplainable loss of fortune or a mysterious theft in the village, by blaming the wild boar roaming the village in the night. Or probably it was ameans of traditional pest-control; to get rid of wild boar from eating and destroying rice fields or barns. The association of boar or pig with magic concerning fortune probably originated from Javanesepre-Islamic and pre-Hindu-Buddhist believes that associate boar or pig with domestic richness, fortune and prosperity, similar to its connections with ancient Javanese piggy bank."
Penjelasan yang sudah cukup lengkap saya rasa. Kalau saya bilang sih, babi ngepet memang benar-benar ada sebagai suatu cara pesugihan. Kenapa dipilih hewan babi? karena ilmunya berasal dari zaman dulu kala,waktu masyarakat jawa masih ndeso,banyak hidup deket hutan dan hewan yang banyak beredar babi hutan, karena itu menjelmanya jadi babi. Jadi bakal dikira babi hutan biasa dan maksimal dikejar2 buat dijadiin sangsang. Kalau saya sendiri belum pernah bersinggungan langsung dengan babi hutan dan berharap tidak perlu. Lebih baik maem babi panggang saja.
